Facebook urged to tell police of child porn groups

Police have urged social networking sites to be more vigilant and alert after cracking an international child pornography ring operating on Facebook. An international investigation carried out by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) was unable to detect the activities of the child pornography ring. An AFP spokesman says Facebook knew of the group's activities on their pages and closed them down, but within hours they were re-forming. He says it should serve as a warning that social networking providers should constantly scan for child exploitation material.The spokesman says any findings should be reported to police. Currently, 11 men have been arrested as part of the AFP investigation, including two from Melbourne and one from Port Kembla in New South Wales. Investigations across four continents are continuing.



Comment: It is no doubt that social networking site such as facebook and msn are indispensable in our daily life nowadays. We can express our feeling, share photos and a lot more in this site. However, everyone should be vigilant too as it may bring harms to us. Some people may abuse this site and this definitely leads many negative impacts across the country as we are interconnected via this interactive tools. Hence, parents should always guide their children in accessing the social networking site.

Grown-up Problems Stress Parents

Research shows that the successes and failures of the adult children have a profound effect on the well-being of middle-aged parents. Even having a high-achieving adult child does not make up for the stress of having one with problems. According to US researchers, parents having a successful children, are more likely to feel depress and worry when their other adult child is having problems. It may be true that parents are only as happy as their least happy child. Study involving 630 parents with children aged between 18 and 33 years old has been carried out. There is approximately 68 per cent of the parents reported having at least one grown child that showed physical, emotional, lifestyle or behavioural problem in the past two years. These include a serious health problem or injury, psychological problems, or financial or relationship difficulties. President of the Australian Psychological Society, Bob Montgomery, said parents often believed it was their job to solve their children's problems and protect them from threats. However he has mentioned that children have to learn to be independent and solve the problems on their own. Parents should be emphatic but not continue to support their child's behaviour.

I think everyone would agree that parents are the one who love and really care about us. Parents seem to be very worried when they find out that their children are engaged in any problems. This can be seen in everyday life and all children sure can sense it without conducting any research to prove it. Hence, children should learn to be responsible and independent as well as try share the problems to their parents. Parents on the other hand, have to encourage their children to talk to them and give them a good suggestion to solve the problem. With both parties come together and have an open-heart talk, I believe that this problem can be easily managed.

A BABY and toddler have suffered facial burns after youths threw an acidic liquid at their pram from a Melbourne multi-storey car park.

The baby boy, aged 12 months, and girl, aged two, suffered superficial facial injuries when the sodium hydroxide spilled on them in their pram. This incident occurred as their mother pushed them along in multi-storey car park. It is believed the incident may have been a practical joke that turned tragic. According to the investigator, the mother was pushing her children in the pram along Bray Street in South Yarra when the incident happened. The substance is believed to have tile cleaner and have been poured from above. Two youths are suspected of pouring the chemical, possibly a strong cleaner, from the top of a multi-storey car park. The witness at a nearby restaurant said that the mother screaming for help. The mother said that her children were covered in the soapy liquid like a chemical. Their body were red and burnt. Their body were covered by all the dots. Stonnington detectives are investigating the incident and trying to identify whether the accident was deliberate or accidental. A Royal Children’s Hospital spokeswoman said the children in satisfactory condition.

In my opinion, this issue should be taken seriously by the authorities. . The youths should be cautioned and asked carefully about the truth. Security at the public areas should be productive in making sure the safety of the community. Hence, the safety of the community should put into precedence

Schools urged to install free condom machines

Free condom machines would be placed in every high school as part of a plan to address sexually-transmitted diseases and cut down the abortion rate. According to the plan, the free condom vending machines would not support or encourage sex in the early age. Family Planning Victoria (FPV) is taking charge to fund contraception in Australia as a way of encouraging safe sex and preventing unplanned pregnancies. Availability of free condoms in high schools would be the perfect start, said FPV chair Sally Cockburn. She further elaborated that it is reasonable to place a free condom vending machine for year 11 and 12 in their common room. According to her, it is the right time that we should concern and protect our young generation. She explained that this program should be discussed 10 or 15 year ago but it is not too late to start it now. It is not surprise that students in younger grades were having sex hence free condom vending machines would help to prevent early sex rather than encourage it. This would be included into a larger education program. However, the Australian Education Union has dismissed the idea. The union's Victoria president says the role of schools is to educate, not to supply students with condoms. He said we certainly care about our students, their health, their welfare, but our role is in educating them not providing them with condoms.


Comment: In my opinion, I agree with the president of union’s Victoria that the major role of school is to educate and move them towards the right direction. However, free sex activities among the youngster now are growing vigorously. It seems to be difficult to prevent this from happening. Hence, encouraging save sex is a good way to tackle this problems rather than action to prevent free sex. This actually reduces their risk from being infected by the sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS that is incurable. Besides that, a proper sex education should be carried out in every school to better educate the students in free sex problems.
