Aaron Travis Pompey jailed over car crash where four passengers died

A judge in the SA District Court has sentenced Aaron Travis Pompey, 20 to a long term jail of nine years and three months after being pleaded guilty to four counts. Pompey was drunk and travelling in the stolen car from Western Australia with the speed of up to 183 km/h and hit the tree. The accident has killed four passengers. Two are Pompey’s friends and the other two teenagers whom he had just met. However, Pompey just suffered minor injuries. Judges said that he uncontrollably hit the tree as it rolled down an embankment. He had found guilty of aggravated causing death by dangerous driving as well as driving without license and drink-driving. Credit has been given to Pompey however, the judge still impose a lengthy jail term on him. Pompey was also banned from driving for 10 years.

My comments:
Road accident is increasing day by day. Every year, thousands of people die in road accidents due to their or others fault. Ignorance of traffic rules and their non-observance results into accidents, fatal injuries or permanent physical disabilities, loss of life and damage of properties. To prevent it, there is a need to generate awareness about traffic norms. I believe that with government intervention, educational programs and law enforcement it helps to curb the increasing levels of road accidents and fatalities. Our responsibility as road users is to obey the traffic rules as well as care for the safety for other road users as well.
